Worst Enemy of Frequent Travellers - JET LAG

“Jet Lag is for Amateurs” - Dick Clark

What does Jet Lag really mean?
Every human being has an inbuilt body clock, which is a small group of cells. These cells turn on and off automatically and tell other part of the body what time it is and what to do. Jet Lag essentially occurs when there is a “brake” inside the brain which stops the body clock from responding. It is medically called as desynchronosis, which is in general a sleep disorder. Mostly, Jet Lag is an issue for the airline pilots, frequent travellers and the airport crew members.

Effects of Jet Lag on us….
The frequently asked question about Jet Lag is how it affects us? The most common symptoms of Jet Lag are fatigue, confusion, insomnia and lack of awareness. Apart from this, the effects on body are anxiety, constipation, diarrhea, confusion, dehydration, headache, irritability, nausea, difficulty concentrating, sweating, coordination problems, dizziness, and it even leads to memory loss.

Causes of Jet Lag?
The major cause of Jet Lag is basically the inability of a traveller’s body to immediately adjust to the new time zone.

Ways to Beat Jet Lag (Before)

Nobody wants to put themselves in the symptoms of Jet Lag as it is a very uncomfortable state and it leads to negative health effects.

The best way to avoid Jet Lag symptoms is to adjust faster to the new time zone. Some of the ways to do so are:

Before you leave, properly adjust your schedule according to the destination
Most importantly, know the direction in which you are travelling. It is more difficult to adjust while travelling towards east than west. When travelling from east to west, go to bed late and wake up late too. This is easier to adjust than to advancing our body clock, when travelling from west to east.

Try to control the light exposure
Controlling the light exposure is the deepest process to avoid Jet Lag and also the most effective too. In this case you need to ease yourself into the new time zone by deliberately manipulating your exposure to light. To reset your body clock; it is important to scout out and avoid light at the right times during the day.

Adviced to pop Melatonin (a drug)
Do speak to your doctor first to avoid any health issue. Melatonin is basically a chemical released by a human brain, which makes one sleepy. It is easily available on various drugstores. Be cautious, it is not right for everyone. Though, one study has proved that 5 mg dose of melatonin in the early evening helps the travellers get adjusted to the new time zone easily.

Packing Tips for the Frequent Business Flyer

Are you planning to go off on a business trip at a short notice? Below are some of the important things to keep in mind before flying.

Choose Your Luggage Wisely
Always choose a durable luggage, which is quite roomy too. For regular travellers, a cargo luggage can be really time-consuming, procedure challenging, particularly when you choose to fly overseas. Always, select a baggage which allows you to move freely and easily. With a huge bag, it becomes difficult to check-in. A small-sized luggage bag helps the traveller save on time by skipping the baggage belt, passing through customs and it also reduces the risk of losing your luggage.

Organise Your Gadgets well
At any security check, carrying electronic gadgets can be a little difficult task. An organiser or carry-on will really work well, which can easily fit your laptop. Make sure you carry a friendly laptop bag, so that the security checks are easy and hassle free. For both domestic and international travellers, the strap-in organizers are a real escapism from the security checks.

Choose to Wear a Comfortable Dress
It may sound like a duck soup, but dressing up for a flight is an attentive consideration. One needs to be metal free, as the metal objects may set off the security alarms and may need constant removal. Any piece of jewellery and belts should be strictly avoided. Also, you must wear comfortable shoes.

Do Your Wardrobe Planning in Advance
For a frequent business traveller, it is must to have an ironed set of formals, kept aside in the wardrobe. Packing for a business trip doesn't mean only formals, remember to pack some casuals along with some evening wears too.
Do carry the essential toiletries - kept in a handy pouch. Try and fetch the mini sized, which may fit easily. These quick checks, keep you well prepared to leave at even a short notice. The toiletries requirements completely depends upon person to person, but some of the common essentials are toothbrush, shampoo, cream/moisturiser (in small sizes) and yes a sanitizer.

Always Organise Your Paperwork Aptly
Be smart…!!! Always keep a secure backup of all the essential documents. Your personal documents can be really expensive to replace. Just to be on the safer side, either keep a soft copy on your e-mail or store them in your pen drive. You do have a choice to upload them on drive or on cloud, allowing you anytime and anywhere access.

Be Safe, Travel smart. Cheerio…!!

The above pointers will be really useful for every business flyer. Also, the traveller can play smart and do the bookings in advance to save time and money. There are both domestic and international flight deals available all year round to various destinations. Try and seek some cheap flight deals, whenever planning a business trip.
